Call for candidates for Werribee District by-election
Monday 6 January 2025
For immediate release
Nominations open tomorrow for a member of the Legislative Assembly representing Werribee District. The state by-election will be held on Saturday 8 February.
‘Prospective candidates should act quickly to ensure they don’t miss out on lodging their nomination,’ Electoral Commissioner Sven Bluemmel said.
Registered political parties must nominate their endorsed candidates by 12 noon on Thursday 23 January at the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) head office.
Independent candidates must lodge their completed nomination form, including 6 nominators residing in the Werribee District, along with the $350 deposit by 12 noon on Friday 24 January at the VEC’s head office, level 11, 530 Collins Street, Melbourne.
To help reduce application processing time, independent candidates can pre-fill their nomination form at vec.vic.gov.au using the Candidate Helper application. They can then print the form and bring it and the nomination fee with them when nominating.
The VEC will hold an information session about the key requirements and responsibilities of nominating for a state by-election online at 6 pm on Thursday 9 January. Candidates can watch the information session at vec.vic.gov.au
Nomination forms and the Candidate handbook are available online at vec.vic.gov.au or by contacting Candidate Services on 8620 1316.
Details of nominated candidates will be progressively published on the VEC website.
More information is available on the VEC website at vec.vic.gov.au or by calling 131 832.
