Community guidelines
Our commitment to social media engagement
We use social media to help people learn about elections. We also share information about how democracy works in Victoria.
We are independent and impartial. These terms and conditions ensure our social media presence does not impact with our ability to run elections or fulfil our other roles.
We check our social media during business hours, 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. We don't check them on weekends or public holidays. During election periods, we monitor them more often to provide quick responses and updates.
Our social media
Our official social media channels are:
- X (@electionsvic)
- Facebook (Victorian Electoral Commission)
- LinkedIn (Victorian Electoral Commission)
- Instagram (@electionsvic)
- YouTube (@electionsvic)
We use these platforms to share electoral information and engage with the community. We have turned off comments and responses on our YouTube channel. If you want to discuss or comment on any videos, please contact us through our other social media platforms. If you see any accounts pretending to be us, please report them to socialmedia@vec.vic.gov.au.
We follow or subscribe to organisations or people in the Australian electoral sector. This doesn’t mean we endorse them.
All VEC social media content is authorised by S. Bluemmel, Electoral Commissioner, 530 Collins Street, Melbourne, Victoria, unless stated otherwise.

No political posts: We don’t comment on candidates, parties, or policies. To stay neutral, we don’t allow posts that show support for any candidate or party.
Stay on topic: Keep posts related to the VEC or the services we provide. Our channels are there for voters to discuss and learn about democracy.
Protect personal information: Don’t share your own or others’ personal information. If you need help with enrolment, visit our Enrolment page for more information or call 131 832.
Respect VEC staff: Treat our staff with respect. They are here to help you. We don’t allow personal attacks, harassment, or disrespectful comments towards our staff. We may remove such comments and block your account.
