Early voting opens ahead of Super Saturday by-elections

Wednesday 28 January 2025

For immediate release

Early voting has opened for the upcoming Super Saturday by-elections in Prahran and Werribee Districts on Saturday 8 February.

The by-elections are being held to elect 2 new members of State Parliament, after the resignation of the Hon. Tim Pallas in Werribee District and Sam Hibbins in Prahran District.

Voting is compulsory for all electors who are enrolled in Prahran and Werribee Districts – but you need not wait until election day.

Early voting centres are open from today, Wednesday 29 January, to Friday 7 February.

Victorians are increasingly embracing early voting with Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) figures showing 42% of voters choosing in-person early voting at the 2022 State election.

To find a voting centre near you go to the VEC website: maps.vec.vic.gov.au/elections

Electoral Commissioner, Sven Bluemmel, said you don't need a reason to vote early.

'If you want to cast your vote on a date that is more convenient for you or avoid the rush on election day then we encourage you to attend an early voting centre before Saturday 8 February,' Mr Bluemmel said.

There are also other inclusive voting options to ensure all Victorian voters have a say in who represents them in State Parliament.

'We have a range of accessible voting options whether it be via post or over the telephone.'

Those who prefer traditional election day voting with a democracy sausage can still go to their local voting centre on 'Super Saturday' 8 February between 8 am and 6 pm.

Remember, voting is a right and a responsibility – those who don't vote face a $99 fine.
